The Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra on Sunday, 21st December, hosted the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and members of the Ghanaian diaspora for a special dinner, celebrating the December in GH festivities.
The event, designed as a homecoming for Ghanaians across the globe, highlighted shared identity, culture, and opportunities for collaboration.
A highlight of the evening was the presence of the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Alex Segbefia, whose attendance underscored the government’s commitment to recognising the diaspora as a critical partner in national growth and economic transformation.
In her remarks, Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the GTA, highlighted the authority’s vision of transforming diaspora engagement from a sentimental gesture into a strategic platform focused on investment, skills transfer, and global influence.
She stated that, “The Diaspora is not an optional stakeholder in Ghana’s development journey. You are a strategic partner. Your capital, your expertise, and your global reach are essential to how we scale tourism, culture, and the creative economy into engines of sustainable growth.”
Mrs. Houadjeto emphasised the significance of the gathering, stating, “Tonight presents more than a formal gathering. It is a moment of homecoming, a celebration of shared identity, shared purpose, and the enduring bonds between Ghana and her global family.”

The CEO further stated that the December in GH celebrations serve as a platform for reconnecting the diaspora with Ghana’s culture, people, and investment opportunities.
She expressed gratitude for the diaspora’s invaluable contributions across sectors, including tourism, the creative arts, business, investment, and cultural exchange.
“As we share this evening of dialogue, culture, and fellowship, may it serve as a catalyst for deeper collaboration, meaningful partnerships, and a renewed collective commitment to telling Ghana’s story to the world,” she added.
The dinner also featured an address from Dr. Adjoa B. Asamoah, international influencer and impact strategist, who shared her personal journey and the achievements of Ghanaians in the diaspora.

Dr. Asamoah highlighted the presence of Ghanaians excelling across global industries, including finance, aviation, sports management, and corporate leadership.
“Africa, with all her resources, minerals, people, natural climate, location, and history, should want for nothing. Ghana and Ghanaians should want for nothing,” she said, citing notable diaspora leaders, including the Vice Presidents of Boeing and Wells Fargo, the CEO of Mitchell & Ness, and global strategists in private banking and brand management, all of whom trace their roots to Ghana.
Dr. Asamoah urged Ghanaians to leverage the diaspora’s wealth of experience and influence, stressing that “celebrities alone will not get us to where we should be. We have to work collaboratively to create a society that exports more than it imports and lean into our diaspora.”

She also praised the current administration’s embrace of Pan-Africanism, adding that Ghana’s rise and Africa’s rightful place in the world depends on strategic collaboration between the homeland and its global citizens.
The evening concluded as a vibrant celebration of Ghanaian culture, dialogue, and unity, reinforcing the country’s message that Ghana is not only a destination but a home.
The GTA diaspora dinner serves as a timely reminder of the power of connection, collaboration, and the shared vision of a prosperous Ghana and a rising Africa.
