NDC Executives, youth unite in protest against Nanton DCE

….Amid fertiliser diversion claims

Youth members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nanton Constituency have taken to the streets to protest against the District Chief Executive (DCE), Abdul-Rahaman Rosina Zenabu.

The demonstration follows a petition by NDC constituency executives to President John Dramani Mahama, urging the immediate removal of the DCE.

The petition cited alleged conduct by the DCE that they claim is detrimental to party unity and could negatively affect the party’s electoral prospects in the area.

During the protest, demonstrators carried placards with inscriptions: “Enough of your husband takeover of Nanton DCE,” “Regional minister, help us save Nanton, or we’ll help you collapse Nanton, “Tampion and Nyoligu are the backbone of NDC, and DCE stop disrespecting our chiefs,” among others.

The protesters demanded urgent intervention from party leadership and regional authorities to address their grievances and restore harmony within the NDC at the constituency level.

Early this month, some executives of the ruling NDC in the Nanton District of the Northern Region have called on President Mahama to remove the DCE, Abdul Rahaman Rosina, accusing her of incompetence and engaging in acts that undermine the party’s credibility.

At a press conference in Nanton on Monday, December 1, 2025, the constituency executives argued that the DCE’s continued stay in office poses a threat to the party’s electoral fortunes.

Speaking on behalf of the executives, Mohammed Sharif claimed the DCE had diverted inputs meant for vulnerable farmers under a key government agricultural support programme.

“The government intervention, such as the Savannah Agriculture Value Chain Development Project, is meant to support farmers and reduce poverty. However, we have credible reports that about 600 bags of subsidised fertiliser allocated to the district were diverted and sold to private retailers under the direction of the DCE,” he alleged.

Sharif said the alleged diversion had eroded trust among farmers, a group he described as crucial to the party’s support base.

“This act is a betrayal of the trust of our farmers. It is a departure from the NDC’s principles of accountability and an act of corruption that has angered the very people who stood with the party in difficult times,” he added.

The executives have therefore appealed to President Mahama to intervene immediately and appoint a new DCE, whom they believe can restore confidence and help advance the party’s agenda in the district.
