Village Girl Kitchen marks five years with donation of 1,000 hot meals to Nsawam Prison

Village Girl Kitchen, one of Accra’s rapidly expanding catering brands, marked its fifth anniversary with an act of service at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, choosing compassion over celebration.

On Sunday, 30 November, the team visited Ghana’s largest correctional facility to donate hot meals and essential supplies to 1,000 inmates.

The outreach formed part of the company’s growing tradition of using its anniversary to give back to society rather than host a lavish event.

The exercise, which began at 11am, saw inmates receive freshly prepared meals, water, and soft drinks. The catering team also supplied basic cleaning materials, including toilet rolls, brooms, mops, and buckets, to support sanitation efforts within the facility.

Prison officials praised the gesture and called on more corporate organisations to extend similar support to vulnerable groups.

“Five years ago, Village Girl Kitchen was nothing but a dream,” said Christine Adu, Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “Each anniversary allows us to give back to society. Last year, we extended our goodwill to a good number of homeless people in Accra. This year, we wanted the often-forgotten inmates at Nsawam to feel remembered and valued.”

Established in 2020, Village Girl Kitchen has grown steadily into a trusted catering service with more than 143,000 followers on Instagram.

The business continues to cater for weddings, corporate programmes, and social events, with clients placing orders through its official page, @villagegirl__kitchen.

The company’s leadership says the anniversary outreach will remain an annual tradition aimed at fostering community support and social impact.
