The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten suspects alleged to be behind a fraudulent online food delivery syndicate that created fake platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.
The operation, led by the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), followed weeks of sustained intelligence gathering. Six suspects — Wonder Sakpiti, Seninam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto and Fafali Amoah — were first picked up on 1 October 2025 at Sogakope.
According to the CID, the suspects created fake websites and social media pages posing as popular food service brands, including Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC and Mawarko. Victims who placed orders were directed to make advance payments via mobile money but never received the food.
Investigators say, in some cases, the suspects went further to gain illegal access to customers’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the guise of “assisting with payments”, subsequently withdrawing funds without authorisation. Digital devices believed to have been used in the scheme have been seized and are undergoing forensic examination.
A follow-up operation on 12 October 2025 led to the arrest of the alleged ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse, alias Pop Smoke, and three others — Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu and Obed Selasi Agboli — at a hideout in Haatso, Accra. Police also retrieved twelve mobile phones from the suspects.

All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court today, Monday, 13 October 2025.
The CID Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, in a statement, urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to the scam to report to the nearest police station to assist with investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to clamp down on cyber-enabled fraud and is encouraging citizens to verify online platforms before making payments.
