Super Eagles To Open AFCON 2025 Camp On December 10, Adams Akor Eyes Debut

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will officially begin preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on December 10.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and his players will regroup ahead of Africa’s biggest football competition, which kicks off on December 21 in Morocco, according to SCORENigeria.

Nigeria has been drawn in Group D alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to announce the venue for the training camp in the coming days.

The Super Eagles will start their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on December 23 in Fez, as they look to make a strong start in their quest for a fourth continental title.

Meanwhile, Sevilla forward Jerome Adams Akor has expressed his excitement after receiving his first-ever call-up to the Super Eagles. The 24-year-old striker is the only new face in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and the Benin Republic.

Akor Adams celebrates a goal he scored for Sevilla earlier this month.

Akor, who has been in fine form for his Spanish club this season, said his focus is on contributing to the team’s success rather than personal glory.

“I don’t think there is a breaking in, personally. I just have to give what I can for the team. In general, whoever’s playing, we give support. And if you’re called upon by the coach, you do your best,” Akor told the Super Eagles media.

The former U-20 international could make his senior debut for Nigeria when the team faces Lesotho at 5 p.m. on Friday, as Chelle continues to push for the 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket.
