The National Communications Authority (NCA) has come down hard on nine radio stations for flouting broadcasting regulations — and this time, the list includes all three Wontumi Media outlets.
The regulator’s hammer fell on 12 August 2025, barely a month after President John Dramani Mahama granted a 30-day grace period for offending stations to clean up their acts. The amnesty window was meant to give operators a final lifeline, but for some, it was business as usual — until the NCA pulled the plug.
Six stations — Donplus Multimedia Limited (Ho), Dreams Ghana Media Limited (New Abirem), Jam Multimedia Limited (Kintampo), Jewel Group Limited (Duayaw Nkwanta), Kpandai Star Community Radio (Kpandai), and Unique Gateway Communication Limited (Nkawkaw) — simply ignored the deadline.
The remaining three, all owned by Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited and based in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, were found guilty of operating without the required Certificate of Compliance. The NCA cited unauthorised Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter locations as part of their infractions.
The NCA said it will keep monitoring the broadcasting landscape to ensure stations comply with authorisation requirements and regulatory standards in Ghana.
